Tom and Donna from “Parks and Recreation” (the TV show) had the right idea about having a Treat Yo Self day. While as moms, we may not have the time or the finances to indulge in an all day Treat Yo Self event, there are a few things we can do without even leaving the house!

The holidays are supposed to be filled with joy, love, and spending precious time with our friends and family. But instead, the holidays often turn into a stressful mess filled with obligation, anxious feelings, and thoughts of jealously and comparison towards others because we forget one thing. We forget to take care of ourselves.
By taking care of ourselves or rather taking the time to”Treat Yo Self” this holiday season, we can take care of family and friends with a joyous heart and mind. I challenge all of us, whether you are a parent or not, to try to take a small moment of self-care everyday.
My small moment of time is usually during nap time or after everyone has gone to bed. Some will find a moment in the morning before everyone wakes up. I tried to do that, I quickly learned, I like my morning sleep, Whenever your moment, I have rounded up a few ways to “Treat Yo Self”
Get A Nice Pair of Slippers
When I say slippers, I’m not talking about any old cheap drugstore slipper.
I believe in investing in a nice pair of slippers can make all the difference. This year, I added a pair of Nuknuuk Joy slippers to my comfy attire and my feet have never felt better.

I graduated college with a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, since graduation I have spent less and less time reading. Now as a mom, I don’t get much time to indulge in my passion with words, but I try. Even just a page or two can make all the difference.
If books aren’t your thing, pick up a magazine. Disconnect from the screens for a moment.
Light Candles or Diffuse Essential Oils
Invest in some candles that look and smell good like these ones from Anthropologie. Or if essential oils are your thing, diffuse!

Do you suffer from FOMO only to not enjoy yourself during the event? Sometimes the best thing we can do is say no. Don’t feel obligated to go or do everything.
